A major highlight of this year’s picnic was a raffle where the grand prize was a 2008 Pontiac Solstice Convertible.  Employees paid $25 per raffle ticket, all proceeds went to Gleaners Food Bank.  We raised $5,800 for Gleaners!  Employee, Ryan Hay, was the big winner!

Marian Indianapolis Passes ISO 14001 Stage 1 Audit

Marian Indianapolis is working to achieve ISO 14001:2004 certification.  Marian Indy passed an important milestone this week in passing the Stage 1 Audit.

ISO 14001:2004 sets out the criteria for an environmental management system and can be certified to.  It does not state requirements for environmental performance, but maps out a framework that a company or organization can follow to set up an effective environmental management system.  A part of our Corporate Culture and Quality Policy is to continuously improve.  Part of this is implementing an environmental management system so that we can achieve the following:

  • Reduce our Environmental Impact
  • Ensure our Operations are Safe for Employees and the Environment
  • Ensure our Performance Meets Legal and Other Requirements
  • Satisfy our Customers

The Stage 2 Audit is scheduled for September.

Solution Story: Tiny, Precise, High Volume – Electrically Conductive Silicone Washer

The customer needed a precisely cut washer that would act as a gasket on the standoff where two metal cast halves of an engine controller (EC) are attached. The gasket also needed to shield the EC from electromagnetic interference (EMI) with other “under-the-hood” electronics. The customer also required an efficient and cost-effective solution because the washer was a high-volume, small part (4,000,000 annually). It had to be placed quickly and accurately, or productivity would suffer.

Marian offered to supply the customer with a part that could be placed accurately and automatically using the AccuPlace system.  Though the die-cut part was extremely small (.256″ x .157″), Marian was able to cut it precisely. In fact, Marian developed a specialized process to ensure that the small center slugs were removed uniformly.

  • The conductive silicone material combined with the precise cut of the washer ensured EMI control.
  • The reliable material dimensions of the washer assured good height and width accuracy on the standoff surface.
  • Marian developed a process to remove the center slugs of the washer, the AccuPlace system handled the high volume of parts, and the customer enjoyed high productivity rates.
